Corinthian Pointe Walking Trail

TIRZ 9 – South Post Oak Redevelopment Authority

The Proposed TIRZ 9 Walking Trail project represents a unique opportunity to expand community amenities. The trail, once complete, will provide safe and accessible pedestrian connections to Sims Bayou, nearby schools, and surrounding neighborhoods. This amenity will transform underutilized detention basin areas into an active, attractive, and sustainable public space that supports recreation, wellness, and connectivity. The project builds on existing infrastructure—detention ponds constructed to accommodate impervious cover so that stormwater management needs are met. The area will gain a visible, long-lasting asset that delivers quality-of-life benefits, strengthens neighborhood identity, and enhances the overall value of the surrounding area.

Phase 1 – Connectivity and Safe Access

·         Connects the senior living apartments on W. Orem Drive to the neighborhood via two new connections on Croquet Lane.

·         Includes a new pedestrian bridge and improvements to an existing pedestrian bridge at Sims Bayou.

·         Adds a new trail along Croquet Lane linking directly to the Sims Bayou paved trail system.

·         Improves pedestrian crossings at Croquet Lane and W. Orem Drive, enhancing safety and access.

·         Provides direct connections for the senior living apartments, Jean Hines Caldwell Elementary School, an event venue, and the proposed park improvements.

·         Includes street trees, wetland foresting, and ecological enhancements along the corridor.

Phase 2 – Recreation Around the Detention Pond

·         Establishes a loop trail around the detention pond, creating a park-like amenity.

·         Provides a sidewalk/trail connection from Sims Bayou Trail and Croquet Lane to sidewalks north of Darlinghurst Drive.

·         Expands safe walking and recreation access to the YMCA and surrounding neighborhoods.

Phase 3 – Nature and Education

·         Adds a nature trail and wooden boardwalk within the newly forested and wetland areas from Phase 1.

·         Creates opportunities for environmental education, birdwatching, and passive recreation.

·         Strengthens community connections to nature and provides unique outdoor experiences for residents of all ages.
